Moby Dick Chapter 5 "Breakfast" Ishmael came down to breakfast, and saw the other boarders waiting in the bar-room. They were mostly whalemen. Ishmael mentions how he could tell, by the degree of tanning, how long each had been ashore. They all went together in to breakfast. Ishmael was astonished to discover that these sailors were so bashful in the dining hall. Queequeg was not, though some might object to his use of his harpoon to fetch himself food. After eating, Ishmael left the crowd there to go strolling. --- References: Geographical: "among the Green Mountains": A range extending from southern Quebec southwards through Vermont into west Massachusetts Literary and Otherwise: "and sea coopers,": a cooper is a person who works in copper "with bosky beards": bosky may mean bushy "seemed like the Andes' western slope" "Ledyard, the great New England traveller," "and Mungo Park, the Scotch one": 1771-1806, explored in Africa
